What to watch on Netflix this October
We’re heading to that season of gloomy weather, waiting on a response from your dream employer or just generally wanting to be a hermit for any reason. Netflix has an abundance of shows ready for you to stream and you’ve come to the right place to look for your next binge watch!
Check out our picks for the best shows to watch this month and maybe you’ll find your next obsession:
La Casa de Flores (The House of Flowers)
A new favourite, La Casa de Flores (The House of Flowers) is a dark satirical comedy, all about a seemingly perfect family, who run a flower shop, face the dark secrets uncovered by the sudden death of the patriarch’s mistress, Roberta. They also learn that their flower shop shares its name with a cabaret that was secretly owned by the father of the family.
If you’re a fan of telenovelas, then this is a show you can’t miss. Every episode has a little twist that is guaranteed to make you want to finish the series in one sitting.
Dynasty
This is one of those series which is the perfect balance of entertaining and cringy, everything a soap opera should be! The show begins with heiress Fallon Carrington unhappy to find her father Blake engaged to Cristal, who is given her dream role of COO of Carrington Atlantic. When Fallon's schemes to separate them backfire and cost her a promotion, she joins forces with Blake's nemesis and former employee, Jeff Colby, and strikes out on her own.
It’s ultimately the same plot as the 1980s series except they’ve changed a few details like it’s set in Atlanta instead of Colorado, the family is involved in energy instead of oil and they’ve made some of the main characters POC. Parts of the plot are a bit hit and miss but ultimately, you’ll want to finish it once you start it!
Queer Eye
Another reboot! If this show isn’t already on your watch list, then what is the point of your Netflix account? The original Queer Eye For The Straight Guy launched in 2003, and saw five gay men give a straight man a makeover. The show is basically the same except it’s not just straight men who get made over, it’s anyone! So the fab five include:
Antoni Porowski – food and wine expert
Tan France – fashion expert
Karamo Brown – culture expert
Bobby Berk – design expert
Jonathan Van Ness – grooming expert
If you were sceptical about the series, the first episode will definitely prove you wrong!
Final Space
Final Space is a sci-fi comedy about a spaceman named Gary Goodspeed who is working off a prison sentence on the Galaxy One after impersonating a pilot and makes a new alien friend, who he names Mooncake be he then finds out his new sidekick is wanted by the sinister Lord Commander who will stop at nothing to use Mooncake's untapped powers for evil.
A lot darker than it seems, prepare to have your heart broken every other episode and get ready to beg Netflix for a second season.
Happy
Probably one of Netflix’s best series yet, Nick Saks is a detective turned hitman with a completely dysfunctional life. Then, after suffering a heart attack during a hit, he wakes up to find he is now accompanied by Happy, a small blue flying unicorn who is the imaginary friend of his kidnapped daughter Hailey. If you love your shows bloody and with a main character who is really difficult to like, then you’ll love this show!
