Invasion Of Privacy Review
We finally have our hands on it, Cardi B’s debut album is finally here! Invasion of Privary was released April 6th through Atlantic Records and features some huge names like Kehlani, SZA, Change the Rapper and Migos. This album has been a long time coming, we all fell in love with Cardi on social media then Love and Hip Hop and then when she made the transition to a multi award winning rapper, all we wanted to do was hear more music but she decided to take her time with the album and it definitely shows. The tracklist is as follows:
01. Get Up 10 02. Drip (feat. Migos) 03. Bickenhead 04. Bodak Yellow 05. Be Careful 06. Best Life (feat Change the Rapper) 07. I Like It (feat Bad Bunny and J Balvin) 08. Ring (feat Kehlani) 09. Money Bag 10. Bartier Cardi (feat. 21 Savage) 11. She Bad (feat YG) 12. Thru Your Phone 13. I Do (feat. SZA)
The lead single Bodak Yellow, made history became the longest running No1 by a female rapper. As soon as it came out, there was no doubt that this album was going to go just as hard as that single did. One of the reasons Cardi is winning right now is how relatable she is. She’s loud, brash and foul-mouthed and her album definitely reflects this. How many times are women, especially women of colour, told to tone down their personalities, the way they laugh or speak just so they’ll be seen as more intelligent or easier to deal with and now there’s someone who’s using all these qualities to become successful!
There’s no shortage of hype or commanding songs like Bodak Yellow, tracks like Money Bag and Get Up 10 help the album to start off strong and remain that way until the end. The only songs that I wasn’t so impressed with were Drip and Be Careful. Every time Migos feature on a song, the song is almost always a hit but this time, it felt like they had almost taken over. It didn’t sound like a Cardi song, it felt like she had almost taken a backseat with this one. With Be Careful, it just sounded unfinished. The concept of the song is great and her vulnerability is beautiful especially when we always see her as extremely confident but the production value just wasn’t there.
There hasn’t been another artist who has risen so quickly and so uniquely as Cardi has. This album reflects probably one of the most genuine rags to riches stories, a journey to empowerment and success and we’re here for it! She has 5 BET Hip Hop awards, 2 iHeart Radio awards and a Soul Train Music Award under her belt and she doesn’t look like she’s slowing down, baby or not, any time soon!
