Blogger Events & Networking Tips

Last year after a few months blogging, we were really lucky to have gone to a few blogger events! They were all so much fun and even though we always ended up having a good time, there was always that moment of panic and anxiety just before each event. There were so many times were we thought about just going home but thank goodness we didn’t because we could have missed out on so many opportunities!

Going to these events, especially when you’re going on your own can be really daunting. Putting yourself out there is always scary but hopefully with these tips, the next event you’re invited to will make you feel exciting instead of wanting to throw up:

Know your blog/brand

This might sound silly but the first event we went to, someone asked about our blog and we all just froze. It was so embarrassing but knowing exactly what you set out to do with your blog or just what you mainly write about is important. Even for yourself, the more you know about your blog, the clearer it will be to you what kind of brands or even bloggers you want to work with!

Be friendly

A no-brainer but it can be difficult when you’re feeling really anxious. With this tip, always remember that everyone else in the room is just as nervous as you are! Chat to other bloggers even if it’s only to laugh about how nervous you are, getting to know other people at an event is a great way of getting rid of nerves and making new blogger friends.

Be genuine

Don’t pretend to be something you’re not as it has a funny way of getting back to bite you! Don’t make any promises of staying in touch or following up with someone if you know you’re not going to. This will just make you seem unreliable and unprofessional and that’s not what you want to be known for.

Be prepared

It is so important to be prepared before an event, it can help so much to ease any worries. Make sure to print your business cards before an event so that you can give people your info easily. Also if you’re travelling a long distance, make sure you know exactly where you’re going and give yourself extra time to get there.

Do your research

Learn as much about the brand or the people organising it as you can, it never hurts to know extra information! There’s no need to cram anything but even just learning people’s names and what they do within a company can make all the difference!

Hopefully these tips will help to make sure next event experience much smoother and less nerve-wracking!
