Beer Hall Dining At Belgo

Belgo is a small chain of restaurants, we visited the one located in Centraal (or Covent Garden) which specialise in Belgian cooking and Belgian beer. The decor and vibe of the restaurant was very unique and interesting straight away as it had open kitchens so customers entering the restaurant can actually see the food being made, some of the waiters were dressed as monks for some reason but it was funny to see and they were very friendly and polite. We were shown into the actual 'dining hall' which was basically large tables next to each other in rows with some on the sides, I was already excited to eat by now because first of all it reminded me of the dining hall from the Thor films and secondly the atmosphere was so relaxed and because the area was so big, people could be as loud as they wanted and it didn't disturb anyone!

We didn't have to wait too long for our food at all, I got the beer battered fish and chips with tartare sauce and peas and my friend got the thai green curry mussels. I was told that the restaurant was famous for its mussels, but I was still wary because even though I love trying new foods, trying seafood for the first time always freaks me out but the mussels ended up being amazing. Not going to lie, the texture of them still threw me off but the flavours were amazing. I was even impressed by the battered fish as well even though a small part of me was disappointed that it didn't come with the fat chips you get from typical chippies but to be far, these fries tasted great as well.

I will say that the menu is on the pricier side, cocktails are £8 each and I think the cheapest main was £12, if you don't like especially loud places then you won't really enjoy here but All in all, it was a very pleasant dinner and I would definitely go again as there's something for everyone, so even if you're not particularly adventurous with food, there's chicken and vegetarian options as well as the seafood!

There are six Belgo restaurants: Belgo Centraal, on Earlham Street, Covent Garden, Belgo Noord on Chalk Farm Road, the one former Bierodrome on Kingsway, Belgo Bromley in the Glades shopping centre in Bromley which opened in March 2010, Belgo Soho on Old Compton street and Newest addition Belgo in Nottingham.
