People’s Question Time with Boris Johnson

People’s Question Time with Boris Johnson was held yesterday in The Beck’s Theatre in Hayes.

The panel consisted of 9 Conservative, 2 Green Party, 12 Labour and 2 Liberal Democrat members who discussed housing, transport and environment, policing and community safety and growing London’s economy with the most popular topic being housing.

The Mayor of London started the evening with a Star Wars related quote "May the fourth be with you."

Mr Johnson then continued by stating that “Hillingdon has the fastest growing economy in London”

A member of the audience put forward to the panel that “The economy seems to be growing but not including everyone. Everyone needs to be rescued, what is being done?”

18,500 homes have already built and a target of creating 35,000 new homes in Hillingdon.

“The crisis is housing, we’re putting pressure and building more housing is the only answer. Spending £400 thousand pounds on brownfield sites will improve housing and help more young people in London. It is totally unfair and there is absolutely no reason why people should not be able to get onto first step homes. Part buy part rent is a huge part of what we can do.” said Boris Johnson, Mayor of London, Conservative.

In Hillingdon and across London there has been an increase in owning houses by part rent part buy which many members of the audience in People’s Question Time are not happy with.

Stephen Knight AM, Liberal Democrat, Londonwide said “London has a crisis for prices, everyone agrees its high but wont agree to put it down. If they don’t go down, we are pricing the future of people in the city. So much money is going on rent and people are earning more from renting then from their jobs. We need to suppress demand and build homes.”

The council aims to cut council tax while simultaneously looking after the poorest as the way forward.
