The Dreaded New Year’s Resolution
So it’s gotten to that time in the new year where everything has begun to get back to normal, everyone is going back to school or work, no one is saying merry Christmas or happy new year to each other anymore, so it’s back to reality and time to work on those New Year goals and resolutions!
The phrase “New Year, New Me” can get a bit tedious for some, but personally it’s amazing how optimistic people get when the new year comes around, with resolutions to be more hard working or the ever popular resolution: to lose weight. According to our Twitter, this is the resolution of a lot of our followers as well so here are a few tips for those who are aiming to become fitter this year and stay determined:
Location and price– pick a gym that’s close to you because the further away a gym is to you, the more reluctant you’re going to be to go regularly. Also make sure the membership price is within your budget, one of the biggest mistakes you can make is joining a gym that is too expensive for you, look out for deals, there are always plenty around this time.
Use the internet – if you’re not quite ready for the gym, you can always work out at home! YouTube has a wide selection of trainers and fitness gurus who have countless workout routines that you can always tailor to whatever your fitness level is at the moment. Also if you have joined a gym, you can always look up some of the machines or workouts you intend to use/do so you are prepared beforehand.
Don’t be afraid of going alone – Gym can seem daunting especially if you’ve never gone on your own before but always remember that everyone is going for the same reason, to better their bodies! If going to a unisex gym is too much for you, it’s always an option to look for a gym that has a ‘ladies only’ section. Many gyms offer this such as TruGym (pictured above), Zahra Gym and The Bridge etc
Patience – don’t be too hard on yourself if you happen to miss a day or two. This resolution is for you and you only, so don’t beat yourself up if your plans don’t go exactly to plan especially when you other things going on, whether it be schoolwork, work etc, do whatever is going to make you feel good about yourself!
Reward yourself – remember to reward yourself whenever you reach a goal, this could be anything to an extra cheat meal to new gym clothes. Lots of stores now have fashionable and affordable active-wear ranges like Missguided or Boohoo* for example:
Hope these tips help with whatever New Year's resolutions you may have! Remember that they should do nothing but help you become a better you!
