Limecrime's Limited Edition Velvetines Trio: REVIEW
"Pssst... New colours in stock."
What a way to grab a makeup geek's attention.
Remember the oath you made just last week that you wouldn't buy anymore? Remember, after seeing the damage on your online banking statement, you SWORE you wouldn't buy anymore makeup...
Limecrime, who makes make up dreams come true on a daily basis, has released a limited edition Velvetines trio, the 25th of November to be exact.
The set comes in full sizes of the matte liquid lipsticks, in the shades Peacock, Buffy and Beet it.
These beautiful unique shades are not only limited edition, but the packaging itself is entirely different to the original and well-known red rose colour themed design.
Described as, 'Makeup for unicorns', Limecrime's liquid lipstick formula dries completely matte, and is touch-proof, transfer-proof and long-lasting.
Did I forget to mention the trio are vegan and cruelty free?
These bad boys came all the way from California, in the United States and arrived on my doorstep just after 5 days the order was made - so a round of applause for Limecrime's swift international deliveries!
Now let's discuss the colours; Peacock, described as a 'stunning blue-green' on the website is a muted mid-tone cool blue. It was of course, packed with pigment! You would most definitely need more than one coat of this stuff as it can be streaky if the application is not even which is a shame.
Buffy, the colour I was most looking forward to was to say the least, a little disappointing. Let me explain, the colour is described as a 'buff nude/cashmere's cousin'... buff nude? What does that even mean Doe Deere? Taking the ambiguity of the colour description I would say it's a warmer, yellow-brown nude in comparison to cashmere's cool grey-beige nude. The pigmentation was a solid 10/10 and the formula was outstanding. I was definitely not disappointedon this aspect. Hold on to your hats girls and boys, I will explain later what i meant by 'outstanding'.
Beet It, the last colour in the Velvetine trio is described as a 'deep wine' . It does remind me of Stila's Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick in the shade, 'Aria' but with more of a vibrant, pink tone. This unfortunately did streak on me. The colour was not as dark as i expected it to be, its more of a vibrant magenta and lasted well through eating and drinking.
The formula, it's 'liquidy' which is good. It doesn't have a creamy formula and dries down to a sticky, comfortable matte finish. I have found with the Velvetines, the formula does vary. Some of the shades like 'Bleached' and 'Faded' are extremely drying and crumbly.
Our rating:
Overall, the colours particularly 'peacock' all all unique in their own way. You have a good variation of a nude, magenta and daring blue to suit all occasions and personalities! This trio is definitely for everyone and even if all three colours don't quite work to your taste, you could always mix them up! Limitations on these products would be the formula in regards to the streakiness, this of course comes down to the colour (the darker, the more chance it will be streaky).
