People's Question Time @ Hillingdon: A summary of the night

The Mayor of London, Boris Johnson and the London Assembley attended People's Question Time at the Beck Theatre in Hayes, Hillingdon.


The panel of 26 members including the Mayor of London sought to answer the borough's questions including topics ranging from the economy to transport and enviornment i.e. policing and discrimination as well as covering the controversial Heathrow versus Gatwick expansion debate.


Mr Johnson's Star Wars related quote kick started the evening with quoted "May the fourth be with you."


The Mayor of London answering a question on how to tackle the housing crisis.


The main highlights of the evening included The economy brought up public issues regarding the housing crisis in britain,


  • Boris promises 400,000 new homes to be built on brownfield sites who says, "the crisis lies in housing".


  • Nicky Gavron, AM and former Deputy Mayor of London challenged Mr Johnson for his incapability to support housing the public, down to less that half of his annual target achieved. Figures stand as 18,500 with a target of creating 35,000 new homes.


  • Jenny Jones, Baroness of Moulsecoomb and long standing Green Party member for the London Assembley describes HS2 as a, "ridiculous scheme" and proclaims anti-Heathrow support.


  • Hayes, in particular, will benefit from the Crossrail in 2018, increasing job opportunities in the area, Mayor of London is "positive and optimistic".


  • As it stands, Hillingdon currently has the fastest growing economy in London quoted by Boris Johnson.


  • The Mayor advises public speakers a solution to discrimation on policing: hire more ethnic minorities.
