Wishing You a Merry Braxton Family Christmas: Review

‘Braxton Family Christmas’ is the first time Toni, Traci, Towanda, Trina and Tamar have all 5 sisters have made a song together since ‘Good Life’ in 1990. This album has been greatly anticipated with fans of all 5 sisters waiting patiently for its release.

Since the beginning of their reality TV show, Braxton Family Values, which aired on WE TV in 2011, Toni, Traci, Towanda, Trina and Tamar Braxton discussed making an album to please their number one fans, their parents, yet pregnancies, solo careers and family feuds have always gotten in the way.

Toni Braxton is the most successful sister having won 7 Grammy awards and released a total of 8 albums, ‘Snowflakes’ which is her own Christmas album in 2001. Followed by Tamar Braxton who rose to fame with her hit album Lovers and War and Christmas album ‘Winter Lovesland’.

The Tracklist:

  1. This Christmas

  2. Everyday is Christmas

  3. Mary, Did You Know?

  4. O Holy Night

  5. Last Christmas

  6. Blessed New Year

  7. Under My Christmas Tree (Feat Michael Braxton)

  8. This Christmas (Braxton Family Version)

Milk rates this:

The album has 8 songs of strong, tuneful melodies with Tamar’s lyric coloratura soprano followed by Trina, Tracy and Towanda and ending with Toni’s Deep Contralto the album begins with all 5 sisters singing in harmony followed with Toni’s solo of ‘This Christmas’.

“And the family’s gonna trim the tree, Traci Towanda Trina Tamar and Missy and Micky. This Christmas and the fires blazing bright, we’re caroling through the night and this Christmas will be a Braxton family Christmas for me.”

This is the first song of the album and the most popular on ITunes with the next potential single to be ‘Mary, Did You Know?’

Trina and Towanda really shine on this album and have a chance to show their vocal ranges and Trina sings out heartfelt runs on ‘This Christmas (Braxton Family Version). Towanda’s pitch range has improved greatly since ‘So Many Ways’ in 1996. On this rendition of ‘This Christmas’ you really feel the bond between the sisters with their powerful harmonies and the song is sung evenly by all sisters.

A surprise feature from their brother Michael Braxton on the song Under My Christmas Tree, a song about love adds the finishing touch to the album, making it all about family by including their older brother who isn’t in the limelight though Traci seems to have been lost in the album, her voice cannot be heard as much as her sisters. Could this be a sign of more drama while recording the Braxton Family Christmas album?

Unlike other RnB sister groups, the Braxton’s voices are each different and unique from each other though many new listeners may find it hard to distinguish each individual voice apart from Toni’s and Tamar’s if this is the first time they’ve listened to each sister sing.

The album has a combination of original and classic Christmas songs which adds a nice variety to it and overall brings the feel of family, love and togetherness Christmas to October for only £7.99. The ideal album to listen to while relaxing with family on Christmas day.
