Brick Lane curry houses revokes license after 14 accounts of violent attacks on customers

Aladin and Nazrul restaurants in Brick Lane are facing closure by the Met police after its latest attack left a customer hospitalised.

The family-run business has a staggering fourteen crime and disorder related accounts involving staff using verbal abuse to stabbing with large groups striking attacks onto victims.

Five months prior to the review of the premises license, a male was stabbed twice and beaten on the head with a large wooden pole. The alleged victim remains hospitalised with a punctured lung. The Crown Prosecution Service later charged one staff member.

Tower Hamlets Licensing Sub Committee advised both Aladin and Nazrul restaurants that serve Bangladeshi cuisine to have their premise license to be revoked after an application was put forward by Met Police and supported by Trading standards.

Andrew Heron, Licensing Officer for Tower Hamlets says that Aladin is well known to the Authority as one the premises most associated with causing anti-social behaviour in the area.

PC Alan Cruickshank, for The Met Police says he has no confidence whatsoever in the management of the restaurant.

He added, “We do not believe any further conditions could lead to the premises license holder upholding the Licensing objectives lead to the premises license upholding the Licensing objectives.”
